What is ScreenSnag?

ScreenSnag is a free online screen recorder that works right in your web browser. Pick a browser tab, an app window or your whole screen, press record, and save the video when you stop. There is nothing to download or install, and your recording never carries a watermark.

It can record sound too. Tick “Share audio” in the browser's sharing window to capture the tab or system sound, and keep “Include my microphone” on to talk over it. Both are mixed into one video, which makes it handy for tutorials, bug reports, presentations and quick walkthroughs.

Everything happens on your own computer. The video is recorded by your browser and stays on your device until you download it; it is never uploaded to a server.

What you can do

  • Tab, window or full screen

Your browser asks what to share. Record a single tab, one app window or the entire screen, including a second monitor.

  • Screen recorder with audio

Capture the sound from a tab or your computer and your microphone at the same time. ScreenSnag mixes them into one track.

  • No watermark, no install

Your video comes out clean, with no logo stamped on it. It runs in Chrome, Edge or Firefox with no extension or app.

  • Private by design

The recording is made and kept in your browser. Nothing is streamed or uploaded while you record.

  • Watch it before you save

Play the recording back on the page, check the length and file size, then download it or record again.

Questions about Screen Recorder

Is this screen recorder really free?

Yes. Recording is free and every video is free of watermarks. Free recordings can be up to 10 minutes long; you save the video with a free ToolClik account. Pro, at $1.29 a month, allows recordings of up to 10 hours.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. ScreenSnag runs in your web browser. Open the page in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on a computer, press Start recording and choose what to share.

Can I record my screen with audio?

Yes. To record the sound of a tab or your computer, tick “Share audio” in the browser's sharing window (Chrome and Edge offer tab audio everywhere, and full system audio on Windows). Leave “Include my microphone” on to record your voice as well.

Will my recording have a watermark?

No. ScreenSnag never adds a watermark or logo to your video, on Free or on Pro.

What format is the video saved in?

Chrome, Edge and Firefox save a WebM video, which plays in browsers, VLC and most editors and uploads straight to YouTube. Browsers that record MP4 save an MP4. To make the file smaller, run it through the free Video Compressor; to keep only the sound, use MP4 to MP3, which also accepts WebM.

Is my screen recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is recorded by your browser on your own device and stays there. ToolClik never receives or stores your recording.

Can I record my screen on a phone?

Not in a browser. Phone browsers don't let web pages record the screen, so ScreenSnag needs a computer with Chrome, Edge or Firefox. On a phone, use its built-in screen recording instead.
