What is Encodr?

Encodr is a free online Base64 encoder and decoder. Type or paste text to encode it to Base64, or paste Base64 to turn it back into readable text. Accents and emoji come through intact, and there is a URL-safe option for links and tokens.

It works with files too. Drop an image, font, PDF or any other file to turn it into Base64, with or without the data: prefix used to embed files in HTML and CSS. To go the other way, paste Base64 or a data URL and save it as a file again.

Everything happens in your browser, so your text and files are never uploaded. Copying is instant; saving a file needs a free ToolClik account. Free handles files up to 50 MB, and Pro, at $1.29 a month, handles files up to 2 GB.

What you can do

  • Encode and decode text

Convert text to Base64 and back as you type. Text is treated as UTF-8, so accents, other alphabets and emoji survive the round trip.

  • File to Base64

Drop any file, such as an image, font or PDF, and get its Base64. Copy it or save it as a .txt file.

  • Data URLs for HTML and CSS

Add the data: prefix with the right file type, ready to paste into an img tag or a CSS background.

  • Base64 back to a file

Paste Base64 or a full data URL, name the file and save it. A data URL keeps its original file type.

  • Forgiving decoder

Line breaks, spaces, missing = padding and URL-safe characters (- and _) are all handled when you decode.

Questions about Base64 Encode / Decode

How do I decode Base64 to text?

Choose Text and Decode in Encodr, then paste the Base64. The readable text appears below, ready to copy.

How do I convert an image to Base64?

Choose File and Encode, then drop the image. Keep “Include the data: prefix” on to get a data URL you can paste straight into HTML or CSS.

Can I turn Base64 back into a file?

Yes. Choose File and Decode, paste the Base64 or data URL, give the file a name and press Decode & download. Saving the file needs a free ToolClik account.

What is URL-safe Base64?

It swaps + and / for - and _ and drops the = padding, so the result can sit in a URL or file name. Encodr can make it, and its decoder reads both kinds.

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 only changes how data is written so it can travel as plain text. Anyone can decode it, so don't use it to hide passwords or secrets.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Encodr reads and converts files in your browser. Nothing is sent to ToolClik.

Is there a file size limit?

Free encodes files up to 50 MB. Pro, at $1.29 a month, handles files up to 2 GB. Base64 text is about a third bigger than the original file.
