What is TextLift?
TextLift is a free online PDF to text converter that works in your web browser. Drop in a PDF and it reads the text on every page, so you can copy it, edit it elsewhere or search it. Copy everything in one click, or download it as a plain .txt file.
Page markers show where each page starts, and you can turn them off for one clean block of text. TextLift also counts the words. It reads PDFs that contain real text, such as those made from Word or a website; scanned pages that are only pictures have no text to extract.
Your PDF never leaves your computer. The text is read by your browser, and nothing is uploaded. If a PDF turns out to be scanned pictures with no text inside, TextLift tells you instead of handing back an empty file.
What you can do

TextLift reads the text layer of each page and puts it all in one box.
Copy or download .txt
Copy all the text in one click, or save it as a .txt file that opens anywhere.
Page markers
See where each page begins, or switch the markers off for clean, continuous text.
Word count
Know how long the document is with the page and word count shown above the text.
Private by design
The text is extracted in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded or stored.

Questions about PDF to Text
Is this PDF to text converter free?
Yes. Free reads up to the first 20 pages of a PDF up to 50 MB. Copying the text is free; you download the .txt file with a free ToolClik account. Pro, at $1.29 a month, reads every page and takes files up to 2 GB.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. TextLift reads your file inside your browser. ToolClik never receives or stores it.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
No. Scanned pages are pictures with no text inside, so TextLift finds nothing to extract and tells you so. Reading scans (OCR) is planned for Pro.
Will the layout be kept?
Only the words and line breaks come out. Fonts, columns, tables and images are not kept in a .txt file.
Can I remove the page markers?
Yes. Untick “Show page markers” and the text from all pages runs on as one document.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. TextLift works in mobile browsers on iPhone and Android as well as on a computer.
