What is HashCheck?
HashCheck is a free online hash generator for text and files. Type some text or drop a file and it shows the MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes together, each ready to copy. There is nothing to install and no command line to remember.
Its main job is checking downloads. Many sites publish a checksum next to a file; paste it into HashCheck and it tells you whether your copy matches, and which algorithm it matched. A match means the file arrived complete and unchanged.
Files are hashed in your browser and never uploaded, so you can check private files safely, and each hash is copied with one click. Free handles files up to 50 MB, and Pro, at $1.29 a month, handles files up to 2 GB.
What you can do
Five hashes at once
MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 are worked out together, so you don't need to know which one a site uses.
Text or any file
Hash a word, a password test string or a whole file, such as an installer, ISO image or archive.
Verify a checksum
Paste the expected hash and HashCheck highlights the matching algorithm, or warns you when nothing matches.
Upper or lower case
Show hashes in lowercase or UPPERCASE to match the way a site lists them. Comparing ignores case either way.
Nothing leaves your device
Hashing runs in your browser. Your file is read locally and never sent to a server.

Questions about Hash Generator
How do I check the SHA-256 or MD5 of a file?
Choose File in HashCheck and drop the file. All five hashes appear, then paste the checksum from the download page to compare.
What does it mean if the hash doesn't match?
The file is not exactly the one the publisher described. It may be incomplete, damaged or a different version, so download it again from the official site.
Which hash algorithms are supported?
MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512. SHA-256 is the most common for checking downloads today.
Is MD5 still safe to use?
MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for spotting accidental damage, but they are no longer secure against deliberate tampering. Use SHA-256 or SHA-512 when the publisher offers one.
Can I decrypt or reverse a hash?
No. A hash is a one-way fingerprint, so the original text or file can't be worked out from it. HashCheck makes hashes and compares them.
Are my files uploaded?
No. HashCheck reads and hashes files in your browser, and nothing is sent to ToolClik.
Is there a file size limit?
Free hashes files up to 50 MB. Pro, at $1.29 a month, handles files up to 2 GB. Results are copied, so you don't need an account to use it.
