What is MetaWipe?

MetaWipe is a free online tool to remove metadata from photos. Pictures from phones and cameras often carry hidden EXIF data: the GPS location where they were taken, the camera or phone model, and the date and time. MetaWipe shows what's hiding in each file and saves a clean copy.

Drop up to 5 JPG, PNG or WEBP photos. Each one is labelled with what it holds, such as a GPS location, a camera model or a date. Press Clean, and every photo is saved again with only its pixels, so the location, camera details, dates and editing history are gone. The picture itself looks the same.

It all happens in your browser, so the photos you want to keep private are never uploaded. Clean photos before you sell something online, post on a forum or email pictures taken at home. Saving the clean copies needs a free ToolClik account.

What you can do

  • See what's hidden

For JPG photos, MetaWipe reads the EXIF data and shows whether it holds a GPS location, plus the camera model and date. For PNG and WEBP it tells you whether metadata is there.

  • Strip EXIF, GPS and more

The clean copy holds only the picture: no GPS location, camera model, dates, or editing history.

  • Same picture, same size

Your photo keeps its full resolution and its format. It just leaves the hidden data behind.

  • Batch clean

Clean several photos in one go and download them together as a ZIP.

  • Private by design

The photos you want to protect never leave your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Questions about Remove Photo Metadata

What is photo metadata?

It is hidden information saved inside the image file, often called EXIF data. It can include the GPS location, the phone or camera model, its settings, and the date and time the photo was taken.

Is MetaWipe free?

Yes. Clean up to 5 photos at a time, up to 50 MB each, with no watermark. Downloading needs a free ToolClik account. Pro, at $1.29 a month, removes the batch limit and takes files up to 2 GB.

Does it remove the GPS location?

Yes. The clean copy is saved from the pixels alone, so the GPS location and every other piece of metadata are left out.

Does removing metadata lower the quality?

The size stays the same. PNG stays lossless; JPG and WEBP are saved again at 95% quality, which looks the same to the eye.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. MetaWipe reads and cleans your photos in your browser on your own device. They are never sent to ToolClik.

Don't social apps remove metadata anyway?

Many big social networks strip location data when you post, but email, cloud links, forums and files sent as documents often keep it. Cleaning photos first means you don't have to rely on that.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Open the page in your phone's browser, choose photos from your gallery, check what they hold and download clean copies.
